Wrecking crews demolish the Reno Post Hall at the northwest corner of Third and Laurel Streets June 13, 1963. (Williamsport Sun-Gazette) This building was used by the German Lutheran and German Reformed congregations in the 1800's. St. Mark's was formed in 1852 from the German Lutheran congregation. Then known as the English Lutherans, the congregation continued to worship here until the new Market Street church was dedicated in 1856.
The original church building on Market Street. Then the congregation was known as the English Evangelical Lutheran Church of Williamsport, and later the Market Street Lutheran Church.
The cornerstone of the original church building was laid October 7, 1854. The dedication occurred January 22, 1856. The cornerstone is now found in the courtyard of the present building.
