Core committee

Family Promise to Open!

After months of preparation, a opening date has been set - May 16, 2010. The first church to host will be St. Mark's. Final preparations are underway.

Family Promise trainingThe Core Committee had its final meeting on Tuesday April 27 at St. Mark's. Some of the members of the Board, some of the congregational coordinators, and other interested persons were present as we concluded the organizing phase of developing Family Promise of Lycoming County, Inc., and move now to implement our plans.

This is the future shape of the organization: The Board will be expanding its membership in the near future, and committees of the Board will be formed to handle the various aspects of governance, fund-raising, and planning. The Board supervises the work of the Director. The new Director, Melissa Magargle, will admit guest families and work with them toward mutually agreed-upon goals, encourage volunteers, and supervise the work of the coordinators with whom she will be meeting regularly. The coordinators in turn will be organizing all the aspects of the volunteers' work in the congregation and welcoming the guests.

Family Promise trainingAt St. Mark's we have provided the meeting place for the Core Committee for its meetings over the past several years. Pr. Elkin serves as Vice-President of the network, which becomes one of more than 160 similar networks around the nation. Becky Miller Pryor has been serving on the Board and will be co-coordinator with Jane Zimmerer here at St. Mark's.
