Independence DayIndependence DaySt. Mark's Celebrates Independence Day With Food, Friends and Fireworks!

Independence DayIndependence DayThe Williamsport fireworks crowd met with the good-will of St. Mark's volunteers on July 4, 2008. For several years, congregation members have set up a stand next to the Church, to offer visitors to the city free popcorn and drinks. This year was our biggest year ever for this July 4 community good-will event.

As families strolled by, we gave away 150 hot dogs, 400+ cups of soft drink, lemonade and iced tea, over 150 bottles of water, and many hundreds of bags of popcorn. Also offered were extra Sunday school books and other written materials, bookmarks, and trinkets and candy for the kids.

Independence DayIndependence DayIndependence DayMuch good-will was returned as over $200 was collected for St. Anthony's Center, the ecumenical soup kitchen in Williamsport.

At 7:30, 75 or more folks were treated to Dick Lakey's patriotic organ program in the nave. Lots of conversations and good will, and closing with the fireworks at 9:45.

We even had a visitor from Holland who had never tasted popcorn. Quite an evening!
