Pastor James WestWelcome
Pastor
James West

St. Mark's . . . give a hearty welcome to our interim pastor, James West! He will be joining us for services on January 29, 2017. We look forward to worshiping with Pastor West for the foreseeable future, while we work through the process of calling a new pastor.

Pastor West comes to Williamsport after 20 years service as a Navy Chaplain and several previous interim calls. In fact, his current chosen area of service to the Lutheran Church is as an intentional interim pastor, serving congregations which are seeking to replace retired or relocated pastors.

Here are some words from Pastor West::

"Grace to you and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ."

I am truly grateful to serve as your pastor for the interim. Our first Sunday together is less than two weeks away as I write this letter.

This is a brief introduction. St. Mark's will be my third interim call. Atonement, San Diego was my first, and Bethel, Windsor, CO my second. Before that was a twenty year career as a Navy Chaplain, with the first duty station in Ceiba, Puerto Rico. After that it was ships in San Diego, Marines at Camp Pendleton and Marine Boot Camp back in San Diego, helicopters at North Island (Coronado, CA), a carrier out of North Island and finally submarines based at Point Loma, CA. And before all that, first call to Augsburg, Detroit and First English, Toledo. As to origins, born and baptized in North Dakota (First Lutheran, Bismarck), raised in Michigan (Trinity, Kalamazoo), college at Northwestern University (University Lutheran Church) in Illinois and seminary at Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary (now Luther Seminary) in St. Paul, Minnesota.

I am married to the former Mary Beth Quanbeck of Burnsville, MN. We have three adult children, Greg in San Diego, Brad in Denver, and Holly in New Haven. Anthony is a Sophomore studying marine engineering at California Maritime Academy in Vallejo. Carly is a Freshman at Windsor High School. We are a deployed family. While we are accustomed to family separations as a Navy Chaplain family, this will be our first deployment as an Interim Pastors' family. Therefore, St. Mark's will be my next port of call. These are exciting times for the West family.

Pray for me as I pray for you, always, in Christ Jesus.
